Family-Nurturing Communication: Add to Back-to-School Schedule

Good Morning, this is Miss Huldah bringing you a few words of encouragement as you create and expand upon a nurturing communication system to your family. You might remember from reading such a system, developed by my husband and I when our now adult children were school age, was the backbone of our successful survival of three episodes of job and financial loss.

The "glue" for our family devotions was Scripture verses . For example, today being September 2, the source of the day's Bible reading could be the first ten verses of Proverbs 2. Wisdom is from God leads to discernment; "Every young man who listens to me and obeys my instructions will be give wisdom and good sense, Yes, if you want better insight and discernment, and are searching for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure, then wisdom will be given you and knowledge of God himself;you will soon learn the importance of reverence for the Lord and of trusting Him." The next step was actual application to the spiritual truths from scripture.

School days have returned. Pens, pencils, notebooks, backpacks have been purchased, bus schedules and locker combinations have been memorized, alarm clocks that have had a reprieve during the summer are once again signaling reality. As you and your family gear-up for the fall activities, make sure, if you haven't already, you schedule a systematic "Family-Sit-down or Family-Dialog-Time."

The goal is to create a nurturing environment and communication system that enables your children adn you to discuss events and circumstances effecting their well-being and to encourage sibling-bonding. Here is an article that gives steps to starting one.

  Continuing in Him,

Miss Huldah
