Good Morning, I'm Miss Huldah, I write about creating a nurturing communication system for your family. Yesterday we talked about preparing your first grader for school by getting an early start on a "regular bedtime."
I hope the practice went well for all concerned; don't be discouraged if you met with resistance. If a the summer has been like most of us, there has been no regular bedtime. Here is a suggestion for tonight:
Don't present going to bed early as a punishment or a negative event. Present it as a special time, a nurturing time; maybe center it around the bath-time. Hopefully you are still reading to him or her and you can make up a story about a first grader who was enjoyed being alert in school, or something to that effect. Before tucking in remember the God Bless Prayers...as in "God Bless Daddy and Mommy...etc."
If you have not had the pre-school visit to the pediatrician, ask
her or him to spend a few moments talking to your child about the
importance of a full night's sleep. Otherwise, mention it at the next
office visit. The more your children hear the message from various
sources the more likely it will be successful. Let me know how it
