Okay Moms and Dads, Let's Get it On

Labeled as the last of the summer, make the weekend a get ready for the best school year ever for your kids

One Step Pep Rally Weekend that has four ingredients:

Because this is to be a Fun, Joyous Ocassion, Get in the party mood going; snacks, balloons party hats streamers

Leave cell phones, laptops, friends in a basket at the front door…no TV’s, video games. Start early enough in the evening in order that attention can be on each child as they each assess their last years failures and successes in a healthy, no-guilt positive way.
Decide on a Motto and Theme for the School Year. Each child can have their own theme but try to have a motto that is fit for everyone.

Because the motto was key to the year's success for the kids and for us as parents in our own duties and activities, we usually used the Book of Proverbs as the source of the motto because of its emphasis on wisdom

To Buy or Not to Buy? That is the Question! Part 2

Dear Momlette Readers,

How's it going with the bedtime change? Remember, I write from experience not from theory. When my children were school age this is how we got ready for the new school year with our children; and remember from the book, (http://www.jbhgroup.com) it was also during the hard financial times of previous recessions for our family also.

1. To Buy or Not to Buy

The question is how to get ready when funds are not readily available. For instance, if your next check doesn’t arrive until after the first week of school and you can’t purchase until then, you can still prepare.

2. Change the parameters, the factors that make the rules for how to prepare for going back to school; backpacks, lunch boxes, notebooks etc.

3. Provide a pleasant experience. It doesn't cost anything to make a memorable time of getting into the routine of returning to school.

Next week's Activity; Recalling math skills and enjoyable reading activity at no cost.

To Buy or Not to Buy? That is the Question

Back to School! Kids aren't ready to hear it, your bank account is not ready for it either. Here is a tip on "Preparation for Return" that doesn't require a purchase.

Suggestion One: First Week in August:

Don't wait until the week before school starts to get back to school Bed Time (BT).
School-aged children (1st through 5th grades) get 9.5 hours, but experts recommend 10-11 hours." from sleep for kids . org:

Start the first week. one half hour earlier than what has been the BTduring the summer.
If the difference is two hours more than the school year BT, make it one hour earlier. Make BT enjoyable not rushed.

Plan ahead
Turn off all jittery, stimulating, non-conducive to sleep activity

As if you don’t have enough on your plate, how are you and your family dealing with your reality and "Reality TV?" Is it a topic of discussion in the family? It needs to be; for the family, with the family!

Has anyone in the family come down with “Celebrititis”, the condition of celebrity mania? If so,
how are you dealing with it? What are the symtoms?

According to the Urban Dictionary, "Celebrititis is an overwhelming obsession with celebrities, typified by talking to them as if they were your good friends, claiming life changing epiphanies on their behalf and /or raising them to god-status and, there are more than 12 off-shoots from the word celebrity into the language vernacular"; not the least of which is "celebritize", the act of making the average guy or gal into a celebrity."

The question you might ask is, “Why do I need to “deal with Celebrititis; for that matter, what is it?
You might think that celebrity news/gossip is harmless and innocent.

All of us Moms wear many hats throughout our day; never knowing which one will be called upon in a moments notice. Keep in mind that the appreciation factor does not always kick in immediately. If you been feeling vulnerable to your current circumstances and events causing you and your family to be overwhelmed, know this You Are Not Alone. If you find yourself swirling around attempting to figure out what to do next One of the hardest things to do now right now is to believe that the God of All Creation cares about your plight. It is important to have confidence and trust in the Word of God when the days seem to be more than you can bear.

When you become discouraged remember this: “God is very close to the broken-hearted, binds up their wounds, and saves those who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34: 18; Psalm 143: 3

I'm familiar with your fear, your panic, and worry; remember for the book, I've been were you are.

Whew! It’s hard to believe that Christmas was just a month ago. Remember how busy you were with the celebration of our Savior's Birth.

"And now, all glory to God who is able to keep you from stumbling, and who will bring you into His glorious presence innocent of sin and with great joy. All glory to Him, who alone is God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Yes, glory, majesty, power, and authority belong to Him, in the beginning, now and evermore." Jude 24,25

He willingly came into the world as an innocent little baby even though He left the glories of heaven to become out Savior. He was the light of the world when He died. He now lives at the right Hand of the Father to make intercession for us . His resurrection power allows us to have life and have it more abundantly. John 10:10b

Let the truth of that scripture passage be the point of meditation for your family this week during family devotions. He died to set us free! Study what more abundantly means..does it mean more money, more toys,clothes,cars; discuss this meaning for the 21st century. Remember, always,

Family-Nurturing Communication: What is It?

Dear Momlette Reader,
Recently, an article in a home design magazine caught my attention. The daughter of a famous designer was describing her bedroom; the accompanying photos were equally inviting. Using glowing terms of peaceful conversation, nurturing-comfort, I found myself wanting to cuddle up and stay awhile.

In a Nutshell that's Family-Nurturing Communication, It's So Comforting that Family Members Want to Cuddle-up, Snuggle and Stay While. Perhaps this is what the Lord had in mind for the family.

"Thy Kingdom Come on Earth as it is in Heaven.

“Husbands, show the same kind of love to your wives as Christ showed to the Church when He died for her to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God's word; so that He could give her to Himself as a glorious church without a single spot or wrinkle or any other blemish being holy and without a single fault." Continuing the BluePrint for nurturing communication:

"That is how husbands should treat their wives, loving them as part of themselves. Love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her”; "husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies..”

When your husband loves and cares for you with that example, that passion, it becomes easy and natural to follow the instruction for us wives:

“You wives must submit to your husband’s leadership in the same way you submit to the Lord. For a husband is in charge of his wife in the same way Christ is in charge of His body, the church.(He gave His very life to take care of it and be its Savior." We, my husband and I, were encouraged to continue with the wisdom written centuries ago:
"Children obey your parents; this is the right thing to do because God has placed them in authority over you.Honor your Father and Mother..this is the first of God's Ten Commandments that ends with a promise"

The Lord's plan for the family communication is one of nurturing-discipline; He longs to guide us into common-unity with His Word.

November "Thankful for My Family" Month

Cathy in Illinois, wrote asking how to begin to bring her young children into the mindset of gratitude in a "lost-everything economy."

Step One: Remember what you are establishing in your family; a relationship with the God of All Creation through His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the loving Father for you, your husband and your children. He declares to us, His children.

The Lord offers us His Mercy daily..."He daily loads us with benefits." Psalm 68: 19

Listen to this encouragement from Jesus Himself..

"Are you worried, burned out on religion? Come to Me..get away with me and you'll recover your life I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. November " Thankful for My Family Month"!

Yesterday we talked about saving money on main ingredients for the Thanksgiving meal at the supermarket. This morning the thoughts of main ingredients continues to flow but from another direction.

Family-Nurturing Communication's essential ingredient is to make Thankfulness a part of your family dialogue sessions.

When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs? ~G.K. Chesterton

Moms,have thoughts of the Thanksgiving menu begin to flood your conscious mind? If so, don't forget to take advantage or supermarket savings that are available only during the Holidays. Make sure to purchase seasonings and other flavor-enhancing basics. Lowest prices for the year on butter, flour and other baking items are a bargain now.

Thanksgiving also presents an opportunity for the Moms, Dads and family members to bring thoughts of Thankfulness into your family dialogue sessions.

Even if your family will be experiencing a very different season of plenty due to jobloss or other financial difficulties, help your children to know the importance and joy of being thankful.

Changing the focus of your thoughts each day since the loss of your finances, to gratitude for basic things in life can make a big difference in your family's travel on the highway toward the the highway toward the Thanksgiving Feast. It is very important to keep that perspective when so much loss is facing you daily.

Just so your losses don't overtake you, begin to give thanks.

Participation-Sports Season..Winning and Losing in the Game of Life
Pros and Cons from the Game’s are Great for Family-Gathering Topics.

1.        Especially if you’ve had cold feet about starting a Family Gathering .Use the game as the objective of getting the family together.
2.        Do it soon while your family is still hyped from the game and might be more inclined to clear their agenda is to watch the game again or talk about it.
3.        Make sure refreshments are plentiful.
How to make use of the game for your purpose:

Keep in the back of your mind that your objective is to jumpstart your family into the comfort and value of talking together.
The game offered many opportunities for great dialogue, let the kids talk about it from their perspective.

Collect as many reports from various media outlets to keep the conversation flowing. Save unused commentary for another occasion if necessary (hopefully you’ll run out of time before you run out topics.

Establish Courtesy as Ground Rule.
Just as the game has rules and regulations that have to be respected, family members need to respect each other.
Opinions shared are not allowed to be bullied, “Oh you don’t know what you’re talking about, that’s stupid”

Your family is now settled into the school year routine communication is abounding; the kids are still adjusting to newness of almost everything. This is an opportune time! Seize the Day!

Begin a family-nurturing dialogue time this Saturday...morning, afternoon or evening. Take advantage! Seize the opportunity to connect together in order for the Lord’s Grace to connect you with Him.

If you are facing what seems to be overwhelming challenges to your family’s existence (the economic pressure on family members, your marriage and the accompanying-complexities) and or; especially

My family and I understand the emotional stress you are experiencing. It's more than you can bear..it leads up to feeling as though you've reached your stress threshold; with that in mind I would like to share a personal recounting of our family getting through a similar situation.

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold when you think you've reached your stress threshold. A paraphrase of Psalm 70 says.."as for me I am always in need of Your sustaining grace. O God, do not withhold it from me."

To put it in today's language, "There's no way on earth or heaven in any circumstance that I would even think about leaving you, let alone leave you; No Way, No How!" Deuteronomy 33:27

Having weathered three previous economic meltdowns, my family and I understand the emotional stress you and your family are currently experiencing. Everyone in the family is feeling the brunt of the drastic change in your family's economy.
The constant lament of the now laid-off employee (Dad/ Mom or both) is , "How am I going to provide for my family?"

Step One: Forget the Things You Need To Forget In Order To Remember the Promises You Need to Remember:

"Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Laboring to Find Peace From Financial Woes on Labor Day?

Here's the Good News Momlette Readers; His Peace is closer than you realize!

Jesus offers His Peace to the weary and fearful from financial loss.. "Peace I leave with you, my Peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give unto you.Do not let your heat be troubled, nor let it be fearful." John 14:27

In another offer of peace He said, "Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:28

A translation that may enter your heart more easily:

"Are you tired" Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Back to School Bash this Weekend!

Dear Momlette Readers: Be Blessed in the Name of Jesus Christ and have a nurturing good time at your Bash!!

As you begin, remember that you are starting something spectacular; Capturing God's Mercy and Grace into Your Family history. As the last posting brought out, important events do not always announce themselves with the fanfare of trumpets...nevertheless what you are about to embark upon is fanfare worthy.

As I Look Back, (I use this term so often I'm going to abbreviate it A.I.L.B.) I find it incredible what the Lord was able to accomplish within our family when we spent time in His Presence...Jesus declared His Presence in this promise in Matthew 18:19,"Where two or three are gathered in my Name there I am in the midst."

On Your Mark, Get Set, GO!!

Begin With Prayer..Invite the Lord's Presence to be with you using the verse above.
Seating:Facing each other in some type of circular arrangement.
Location: where the family is likely to be the most enjoyable; the family room, dinner table. patio..In subsequent meetings let one of the kids pick location..let it be an honor to pick the location...
Personal Electronic items shall be left out. Yes, no cellphones or i pods....remember the purpose is to talk with one another.
Establish next Meeting: Set next meeting time... it's mandatory!!
Don't be discouraged if your teens think it's boring; they'll come around.
End in Prayer..use one of the many benedictions in the Bible.
"The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen"

When we started our regular family devotions there was no role model, no way to know that years later it would turn out to have been the best dividend producing "investment" my husband and I could have made. God's economy is sooooo solid.

Family-Nurturing is the putting family relationship into the planned relationship of our Father Who Art in Heaven. The long term benefits of this relationship far outweigh the momentary-sound-bite-27-minute-family-sitcom babble.

Family-Nurturing Communication Building Blocks Starts Early

"And now word to you parents. Don't keep on scolding and nagging your children, making them angry and resentful. Rather, bring them up with the loving discipline the Lord himself approves, with suggestions and Godly advice." Ephesians 6: 4

I was a career Mom in the beginning..a change began while being flat on my back recuperating from another back attack. No longer commuting to my job, rushing to get the kids (at that point they were age four and seven) to school and nursery school etc; everyone in the house was calmer our seven year old was moving into stage that I called The "getting on with life next stage of child development"...translation Bully in the lunch room, Bully on the playground, what to wear... and on and on.

At the same time we'd already experienced 2 job losses. The financial loss was causing stress on our marriage; we attended a Marriage Encounter Weekend for our tenth anniversary present to each other. My parents kept the kids and we immersed ourselves in the experience...into learning about how special and powerful marriage is in the Lord' s economy. .

Re-committing ourselves to Him and each other by repeating our vows on that weekend.. Now we were ready to tackle our older child's Second Grade stuff. (Or so we thought)
